Take Action

The aim of Knowmore.org is to raise awareness of corporate abuse, and to serve as a catalyst for direct action against corporate power.

Ethical Consumerism is an important movement toward corporate reform, through which individuals recognize their own role in systems of oppression, and take personal steps toward resistance and  positive change.

However, the problem of unchecked corporate power is systemic and goes far beyond the scope of any single boycot or campaign.

  • Pitt News: Univeristy of Pittsburgh shouldn't lend its name to prison privatization: "Private prisons have been publicly scrutinized over the years because of well-publicized breakdowns in places like Kit Carson, Colo., where the Department of Corrections once investigated a CCA-owned facility and deemed the situation "intolerable." There were reports of inmate-guard affairs, felons hired as guards and a high job turnover rate, according to the Denver Rocky Mountain News."
  • The Education Industry: The Corporate Takeover of Public Schools: "If you want to get a sense of how pervasive corporate influence in U.S. education is, just take a tour of your neighborhood school. Enter the cafeteria and you'll probably find wrappers from Taco Bell, Arby's and Subway, fast food chains that provide school lunches. The third grade class may be learning math by counting tootsie rolls. Science curricula might well come from Dow Chemical, Proctor and Gamble, Dupont or Exxon."
  • US: I Spy-For Capitalism: "In 2006, for example, Lehman Brothers Inc. (LEH ) quietly promoted 35-year CIA veteran Ted Price from its corporate-security department to head the firm's Indian operations, based in Mumbai. Price was deputy director of operations at the CIA before becoming an investment banking executive. Earlier this year, Mike Baker, a 16-year CIA veteran, launched a corporate-intelligence firm, Prescience, in New Canaan, Conn., to serve hedge fund clients."
